We got some last minute tickets from the folks we often tailgate with. They are indoor club seats which is nice so we can keep Daisy warm. :)

Super Sunday! Part 2

So we had a group of folks over tonight to watch the game. Some of them couples/families from our homegroup bible study. Other of them just folks that know us and stopped by to be part of the gathering. I think we had about 30+ people (when you start adding in kids) down in our basement.

Here's what the food table looked like at halftime -- we did some serious eating.


Oh, and that table was the just the main stuff. There was a separate little table with some desserts!

We had a great time watching the game, and since the Saints won, it means I won the house pick'em game (beating David, Wade, and Jim). Not to brag or anything, but I was the only one who picked Colts-Saints to make the Superbowl, and I picked the Saints to win. Too bad I'm not that good in regular fantasy football! :)

Super Sunday! Part 1

Daisy and I are at home getting the house ready for a Superbowl party tonight. We've got some friends from our Bible study coming over. :)

David and Wade are out in Craig County sledding with a group of folks on Wade's parents' farm.

Daisy has been having fun playing in her Jumperoo while I've been working in the kitchen:

New Years Weekend

Yesterday (Friday) we slept in and did a lot of relaxing and watching football. We did some housework, but mostly relaxed. After all, it was a holiday.

David made some yummy burgers for dinner. Mine had avacado on it:

Our friends Ben and Anna were in town for a wedding and spent the night at our place. David made a tasty French toast breakfast this morning using a recipe he saw watching Food Network.

Later in the day, we took naps on the couch and watched some more football. There were a lot of good games this weekend, with a lot of bad kicking. So many teams won/lost because of missed field goals and extra points!

We went to the Staats' home tonight and watched the Hokies dominate Tenneessee before playing some Wii and ringing in the new year.

More Eagles & Post-game

Our seats were in the club level so we had access to a huge indoor heated concourse. That's why we got these tickets since we have Daisy and don't want her to get too cold.





Because we were in the club section we had a special entrance where we walked right in. I watched the regular entrance from the club lounge -- look at all the people.






Daisy did really well minus a diaper blowout in the first quarter. That meant I had to go to the backup outfit underneath the 2T jersey she borrowed from cousin Asher. Here's what she looked like after that:






As for the game itself, it was a lot of fun. It was another close anniversary game for us. The Eagles jumped out to an early lead but the Broncos came back and tied it in the fourth. Fortunately for the home crowd, the Eagles kicked a game-winning field goal with 4 seconds to go. That made for a happy subway ride home!

Speaking of the subway, that marked Daisy's first ride on a train.





Once we got off the train, we walked around a few parks near city hall before heading back to the hotel.










Since I didn't post these earlier, before the game we went to a little neighborhood restaurant called Cavanaugh's. We split a hot dog platter that had a huge side if tots. Yum.

Eagles game

Virginia Tech vs. Virginia

Since David's sister Lisa is a Ph.D. student at UVA in athletic training, she was able to get us tickets to Saturday's VT-UVA game. She also was able to sign up David to be on the sideline to provide water to officials during the game.

The only catch was that he had to wear UVA clothes. :( (This was a sight I never thought I'd see!)

Before the game, we tailgated with a bunch of folks who came to town for the game (Lisa's friends had some tickets to share). Here's Katie holding Daisy all decked out in her VT gear. Katie hadn't held Daisy since she was 2 days old -- she's a lot heavier now!


Gramma Chinn kept Daisy at Lisa's place while the rest of us went to the game.

After the big VT win, David took his UVA gear off and was back to being a proud HOKIE!

More firsts for Daisy!

Well the past 5 days have been full of more firsts for Daisy... things have been busy so it's been harder to get posts up.

This past weekend, I was speaking at a conference for college students at Eagle Eyrie. I was doing the Saturday morning session, and I didn't find out my topic for sure until the previous weekend. That left me with last week to finalize my talk. That meant I needed some time with my hands free, so several generous friends stopped by at various points to hold and feed Daisy. This worked out well since we were wanting her to get used to taking bottles from others anyway. Jessica, Kati, and Beth all came and helped, and Daisy enjoyed her time with her new friends. :)

In addition to me having the conference to prep for, we had our friends Dom and Hilary coming to visit us from France. They arrived on Thursday in time for the football game. We tailgated with some friends, and we took Daisy with us. She and Hilary both experienced their first ever Hokie game. At least Daisy won't remember the game and therefore the loss, which definitely was a bummer.

On Saturday, Jesse and Hilary gracious enough to come with me to Lynchburg and hold Daisy while I spoke. David and Dom went fishing in the New River to celebrate Dom's 30th Birthday.



As I already posted, Daisy was dressed up as a ladybug for Halloween. For those who don't know, the only "pets" I had as a kid were ladybugs -- I love them! When I saw this costume, I knew it was a winner! :)

On Sunday, we watched football (of course) and both the Bears and Grilled Cheesers had good days. We also ate the fish the boys caught.



We had a wonderful time this weekend with Dom and Hilary and we look forward to visiting them in France sometime soon.

Today, in anticipation of my first day back at work Tuesday, we took Daisy to daycare for a few hours. It was definitely hard to leave her -- I cried in the car -- but we trust she is in good hands. Please be praying for her and us as we make this transition. My job is part-time (more on that tomorrow) so I'm only working 3 days a week right now. Still, it is hard to say goodbye to her even though I feel confident God has led me to the job I'm in. (Anyone else read that sentence and think Boyz II Men?)
