Sunday

Well we intended to take Daisy to church for the first time today, but that didn't quite happen. Our morning was full of explosive diapers and fussy cries. Daisy seemed to have a tummy ache.

We lounged most of the day watching football. Cheesers lost again. :(

We did head out to Giles to go to the Palisades for dinner. David had a ribeye, his mom had the lamb, and I had roasted stuffed squash.

After a long day, Daisy fell asleep in my arms.

Homecoming @ VT

In celebration of homecoming and Gramma's visit, mommy bought Daisy a new Hokie outfit. I always said I'd put Daisy in a jersey before a cheerleading outfit, but David kept wanting to get her in a VT "dress." So I pulled off a rare surprise on daddy and snuck the outfit in the cart without him knowing. I even checked out without him seeing it! (Yay for me in pulling one over on daddy. That never happens!)






Go Hokies!!! And don't worry, I'll get her in a jersey someday. :)

Welcome Gramma Chinn!

After a month of anxious waiting, Gramma Chinn was able to fly up from Florida for the weekend to meet Daisy!

Daisy spent the morning resting up for the big day:


We got our car inspected while in Roanoke, then we headed to the airport. Daisy was ready and waiting in a cute dress Gramma had mailed up to her.


We surprised Gramma by coming inside. Here are the first few moments and pictures of grandmother and granddaughter.


Gramma brought Daisy another gift...some really cute clothes with daisies and lady bugs. The panda bag was adorable, too.

We'll have lots more pics from what will surely be an exciting weekend! :)

Dinner on the Road

After leaving Charlotte, we made a quick stop to feed Daisy. About an hour later, she got pretty fussy and we figured it was time for a diaper change. David quickly pulled off the next exit on 77 and we found ourselves in Elkin, NC. The first restaurant we saw was a Cracker Barrel and we thought we could rock Daisy before getting back on the road. Soon we were tempted to stay and eat. :)

We put Daisy in the sling while I enjoyed a grilled bacon & cheese and David tried the fried shrimp.

But don't worry. We fed her, too, before hitting the road! :)

Daisy Goes Interstate

David had a work meeting in Spartanburg, S.C. on Thursday (today) which is about 1 hour south of Charlotte. He had arranged to have a hotel room in Charlotte, and asked me if I wanted to bring Daisy and come along. I figured, why not?

We left Blacksburg on Wednesday afternoon and drove down to Charlotte. We stopped once to feed Daisy, which wasn't too bad.

We arrived in Charlotte in time to eat a late dinner at Pizzeria Uno. For those who know us, UNO's is our favorite pizza -- nothing tops Chicago Deep Dish, and this is the only place outside of Chitown to get it. I love the Spinoccoli pizza, it's my favorite pizza of any kind. So the chance to join David on the trip AND get to eat spinocolli was a no-brainer! :)

Our hotel was in uptown Charlotte, just a few blocks from UNO's. We decided to put Daisy in the stroller and walk.



She had a good time taking in all the sights, and she actually slept through dinner in the stroller so we got to both eat at the same time! David carried her back to the hotel, but still -- what a treat to get to enjoy dinner and have a "date" together! :)




Today, I stayed at the hotel with a late check-out time while David went to his meeting. We've just been relaxing around. Since Hampton Inn has free breakfast, I took the opportunity to grab a little extra for lunch. I made a PB & honey sammy and snagged a banana and bowl of cereal. In order to eat, I decided to try setting Daisy on the sofa in the room between some pillows.


Since I had my eyes on her, I wasn't nervous about her getting suffocated. And this allowed me to use both hands to eat my cereal. She did great! Even though she wouldn't go down last night in the bassinet, and I held her most of the night, it was great to get a small victory today in the day! :)

We'll head back to B'burg soon... and mark down another first for Daisy -- her first time out of state!

Purely peaceful.

It's a Miracle! (sort of)

That's right -- the miracle blanket worked. Sort of!

We tried it Saturday night and Daisy pitched a fit. I mean she was not happy at all and was screaming at the top of her lungs. Finally we gave up for the night. But Sunday night, Grammy and Grandpa Rose were in town and Grammy helped Mommy wrap up Daisy.

We put her down in the blanket (pictured below -- the room was dark) and she actually slept for 1.5 hours without being held. She woke up to feed around 1:00am and after she was done, she slept for another 1.5 hours in the Moses basket wrapped up in the miracle blanket. When she woke up for her 3:00 am feeding, I had to take her out of it to change her diaper and she was fussing enough not to put her back in it. But I am glad it worked for a few hours... :)

Today (Monday), I put Daisy in one of her new outfits... this one has pandas all over it. I love the Panda feet! :)


My sister loaned me this hanging toy mat and my mom brought it up yesterday. Daisy tried it out for the first time today. She laid under it for about 10 minutes and seemed somewhat interested. Not bad for a 4-week old!

We enjoyed lunch with some friends today (who just got married and are moving to California) and Daisy was worn out by the afternoon!


**P.S. Just a note: The Bears won on Sunday, as did the Grilled Cheesers! That's right. My fantasy football team got its first win of the season! :)

Daisy loves Saturdays

So far in her young life, Saturdays have meant two things:

1) meeting new people
and
2) VT football

Today was no different. Daisy was dressed in Hokie-gear, cheering along to the radio as we beat Duke.


She also met some new friends for the first time: Brandon & Jane (who are 9 months prego) and Colbi (who brought us fresh picked apples along with Beth and Jess).


After her new friends left, Daisy took a nap on mommy's lap.


Later, Daddy and Wade were in charge of watching Daisy while mommy did laundry. They decided to play the Wii and propped up the little one to watch.





Unforunately, daddy had to pick Daisy up when she felt left out.


Overall, it was a good day. As the title says -- Daisy loves Saturdays! :)

Out and About

We woke up Friday to say goodbye to Daddy as he headed to Richmond for a work meeting. It was just Daisy and I for the day...

I had an nurse coming by in the morning to take samples for a life insurance policy, so Jeanette came by to be with Daisy while I was occupied. I decided to put Daisy's "cow" outfit on (Thanks Cheryl) because we all know Jeanette loves cows.

During the middle of the day, Daisy laid down for a few minutes in the Moses basket. She "slept" for about 15 minutes while lying down. That's a start!

After napping, we headed out to Carilion so I could meet with Mercy, the lactation consultant, and just check in on how Daisy is feeding. Mercy weighed Daisy in and that proved she is in fact eating very well! She's up to 9 lbs. 11 oz.!

After running into Target to get some things we needed (Daisy slept in her car seat in the cart the whole time), I prepared to head to Panera to meet Jesse and Jackie for a little girl time. That's when Daisy woke up and started screaming. I was just a mile from Panera (although it's at least 3 stoplights) and there wasn't a good place to pull off. 5 minutes later, by the time I got to the Panera parking lot, Daisy was in her full mad scream. I got in the back seat to feed her (it was definitely time), and here's how much she was sweating. I think her reddish hair is already showing us its temper!

I enjoyed getting out of the house to meet with Jackie and Jesse. It was comforting for Daisy, too. She "met" with them weekly for weeks while in my belly. :) They took turns holding her, which was nice, too. That way she could cuddle and I could take some time off. I'm learning, even though I'm just three weeks into this, that sometimes a mom just needs a break. Daisy especially liked cuddling on Jackie's shoulder.

Daddy finally got home a little after 8:00 and Daisy was glad to see him. So was mommy!

Take your Daisy to work day!

Today is Thursday, otherwise known as "Take your Daisy to work day!"

David and I decided yesterday that today would be a great day to take Daisy to David's office to meet his coworkers.

This is Daisy at lunchtime -- getting ready in her "I (heart) my Dad" bib.
I wanted to get some exercise, so I decided to walk to David's office with Daisy in the stroller. It uses the car seat, so then we could just ride home with David afterwards. Here we are along the way -- she dozed off about 5 minutes into the journey and slept all the way there.
Daisy was a big hit at the office, especially with all the ladies!
Meeting so many new people definitely wore out Daisy (and Daddy). Here they are napping while I'm typing this!
